We had the privilege of hosting an insightful speech delivered by Min-Kuang (Jimmy) Tsai, PhD, who is an Assistant Research Fellow at the Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine, Shuang Ho Hospital, titled “From Clinical Questions to Big Data Answers: My Journey in Non-communicable Diseases Epidemiology.” During the session, Dr. Tsai shared his personal journey into research, describing how clinical experiences sparked his interest in exploring broader health patterns through epidemiology.
He highlighted how large-scale health data can be used to answer important clinical questions, particularly in the area of non-communicable diseases in Taiwan. Drawing from his research experience, Dr. Tsai explained how big data allows researchers to examine population-level trends, identify risk factors, and generate evidence that can guide prevention and intervention strategies.
The talk provided valuable insights into the growing role of data-driven research in understanding non-communicable diseases. It also encouraged students and early-career researchers to remain curious about the clinical questions they encounter and to consider how research and data can help provide meaningful answers.
